So I'm nearing the end of my winter break, which means goodbye lazy days at home & hello, studying & homework (bleh). Although I'm not looking forward to getting back on the grind, I am looking forward to seeing my friends again. I'm even more excited to see what awaits me in my new classes. Going back to school can be difficult for some people because it means having to adjust to a new schedule, new classmates & new professors. All of that can be a little intimidating, but nothing says, "I'm ready for the new semester" more than feeling confident in the perfect first day outfit. Here are 3 outfits I put together to help inspire the ladies out there to be more excited about going back to school:
1. Cool Casual: This outfit is for all the classy ladies, who enjoy a more demure & sophisticated look. Here's a math equation for you - Polka dots + peplum = a super feminine, chic style. I find that this look is flattering for most women. Pair it with dark skinnies, a gray blazer, mint loafers & a neutral tote & you're definitely looking like a college grad. Add on some gold accessories & you're good to go. Watches are a nice touch because they're both functional & cute. Not only does this outfit make you look stylish, it also makes you look professional. If you want, you can go straight from the classroom to an interview, but make sure to switch out the loafers for heels instead. You'll be impressing your professors & classmates in no time & who knows? You might even impress the cute guy staring at you from across the room.
2. Sporty Chic: Okay, I admit this look is less sporty than you might imagine, but whenever sneakers are involved, for some reason I think it's enough to qualify to call it "sporty." In any case, Cali girls will definitely get me when I say that during the spring, shorts are a must. The weather in California warms up fast during the spring & summer, so once winter's over, don't be afraid to show a little more skin, in a modest way of course. Here we have a coral blouse paired with lightly washed, distressed shorts & leopard print sneakers for that extra bit of pizzazz. The coral color obviously stands out, so you'll be catching people's eyes in a heartbeat. A white skinny belt contrasts the coral top & some gold jewelry never hurts. Finally, use a messenger bag for all those books you're going to "read" (because we all know college students never get lazy when it comes to reading). I recommend this outfit for the casual trendsetter type of girl.
3. Floral Fancy: This last look I had intended for the girly girls at heart. No dress-loving kind of girl can resist a little floral print every now & then, but how about floral on floral? I don't usually play with pattern mixing because I don't feel like I'd be able to rock it, but if you're the type of person who's up for a challenge, then definitely experiment with patterns. You never know what kind of new look you might come up with when you do. Match a floral dress with some flats of a complementary color (in this case, coral, from the flowers on the dress), a braided belt, some bracelets & a ring. Then use a backpack of a similar pattern, but different color to add a little twist to the outfit & voila. The look is complete! Simple, right? For colder days, just wear a cardigan over the dress. This look is also great if you like to ride a bike to get around campus. You'll definitely be drawing people's attention while passing them by.
One thing I would recommend against is wearing sandals, especially if you don't use a bike or scooter & all your classes are far from each other. Sandals aren't reliable if you're in a hurry to get to your next class. If you use them too often, they can get worn out easily & eventually break. That's just my opinion, though.
Well, hope these outfits have somewhat inspired you. I would love to know what you decide to wear or if you already have an outfit picked out for your first day. Let me know in the comments! Ciao.
